Cultural trip to Iran, April 26 - May 8, 2000
The Club of Friends organized a very successful cultural journey to the country of Iran (April 26 - May 8, 2000 ). Along with getting acquainted with the history and culture of the Persian people, the Travelers had the chance, thanks to an especially designed itinerary, to get initiated in the world of the Persian handmade carpet. There were visits to museums, open-air markets and to especially designed manufacturing enterprises, carpet washing plants, where they watched the procedure of making handmade carpets, prior to their distribution to the Western markets. At the same time, there were visits to nomadic reservations of Gasgouli and Bachtiari tribes, where the visitors from the "civilized" West, experienced the unforgettable generosity and hospitality of these people.
This journey was the first Carpet Adventure organized by the Club of Friends of the Oriental Carpet and was an enchanting journey along the paths of the oriental carpet.
