Forum on: The Civilization of Afghanistan and its Textiles , on March 20, 2002, in Athens , and on November 1, 2002 in Thessaloniki . On both occasions, there was a parallel photo exhibit by Dimitris Messinis (Assoc. Press) titled: Contemporary Images from Afghanistan .
On the occasion of an exhibit of Afghan carpets, Galerie Dora Penga and the Club of Friends of the Oriental Carpet, organized a very successful presentation about "The Civilization and Textiles of Afghanistan", at the Society of Graduates of the School of Arts, in Athens.
Speakers at the presentation were Mr. Andreas Andrianopoulos, former Minister on: "The geopolitical environment of Afghanistan", Mr. Nicolas Vafiadis, journalist ANTENNA TV, on: "Afghanistan 21st century", Ms. Flor Rojas-Rodriguez, U.N. Commission for the Refugees in Greece representative, on: "Women-refugees and human rights in Afghanistan", and Mrs. Dora Penga, on: "The historical evolution of Afghan carpets and textiles", touching on the subject of cultural influences of Afghanistan, in conjunction with weaving art of the handmade carpet.
The presentation was very well attended by people of all ages, who listened with great interest and was informed on all aspects of life in Afghanistan , rarely reaching the mass media.On the same day, there was the opening of the exhibition of Afghani handmade carpets and textiles, by Galerie Dora Penga, as well as a photo exhibition by Dimitris Messinis (Ass. Press), titled: "Contemporary Images of Afghanistan".
Following the very successful presentation on Afghan Civilization, in Athens , Galerie Dora Penga and the Club of Friends of the Oriental Carpet, brought the same to Thessaloniki, in order to inform its citizens of the wider cultural parameters of life in Afghanistan. The event took place on Friday, November 1, 2002, in Yeni Tzami, the Old Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, at 7 p.m. It was organized in cooperation with the Municipality of Thessaloniki, as part of the "Demetria" yearly celebrations.
